Our Journey
Established in 2009, THEM Earthmoving Pty Ltd has deep roots in Geraldton, the Mid-West, and regional Western Australia. Both founders, Stephen and Katrina-Lee, are lifelong residents of the Mid-West, tracing their connection back to the 1950s when their grandparents first emigrated to the region—a place both families have called home ever since.
From Humble Beginnings to Current Success
Beginning with just a singular Samsung Loader, THEM Earthmoving has grown significantly over the last 15 years. Thanks to the hard work of dedicated employees and the determination of Stephen and Katrina-Lee, the company has achieved remarkable success. What started as a modest venture has transformed into a thriving enterprise, now operating from its newly constructed depot—an evolution from its humble backyard beginnings.

When Katrina-Lee and her husband Stephen ventured into the business world, she wore multiple hats. Initially, while managing the accounts and administration of THEM Earthmoving, Katrina-Lee continued to share her passion for education by teaching part-time. This unique blend of roles showcased her commitment to both the community and the business, balancing education with the increasing demands of entrepreneurship.
From Part-Time to Full-Time Leadership
As the business continued to flourish, the demands on Katrina-Lee's time grew. The growth of
THEM Earthmoving required her to transition into a full-time leadership role, overseeing
day-to-day operations with unwavering dedication. Her background in education, coupled with her managerial
acumen, broughta unique perspective to the helm of the company.

Stephen O'Brien - Managing Director
Managing Director Stephen along side Katrina-Lee lead the company as a seasoned professional with over 25 years of industry experience. Stephen's journey is deeply rooted in the earthmoving sector, making it the cornerstone of his extensive career.
From Diesel Mechanic to Leadership
Stephen's professional journey began as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic—a testament to his hands-on expertise in the workings of heavy machinery. His skills and passion for the industry led him to a pivotal role within his father's earthmoving business, where he honed his leadership capabilities and deepened his understanding of the intricacies of earthmoving operations.
Entrepreneurial Spirit
In 2009, fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit and a shared vision with his wife Katrina-Lee, Stephen embarked on a new chapter. THEM Earthmoving was born as a testament to their commitment to excellence and the pursuit of a thriving business that catered to the unique needs of the region.

Kynan O'Brien
Continuing the Legacy: Kynan's Journey with THEM Earthmoving
The commitment to family and excellence at THEM Earthmoving extends to the next generation, embodied by Kynan, the eldest child of Stephen and Katrina-Lee.
Educational Achievement and Dedication
Kynan completed his education in Geraldton, graduating in 2020. His journey with THEM Earthmoving, however, began long before his graduation. From a young age, Kynan actively contributed to the family business, immersing himself in various roles that laid the foundation for his diverse skill set.
Hands-On Experience
During his teenage years, Kynan devoted substantial time to the maintenance and repair of machinery—a testament to his hands-on approach and commitment to understanding the intricacies of the industry. This early exposure to the operational side of the business has proven invaluable in shaping his role within THEM Earthmoving.
Transition to Administration
As Kynan's educational journey continued, he transitioned seamlessly into an administrative role within the company.
Leveraging his hands-on experience and a keen understanding of the business, Kynan now plays a pivotal role in various
administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of the operations.
Study at Curtin University
Currently, Kynan is currently working remote and studying at Curtin University, Bentley. This dedication to academic pursuit aligns with the ethos of continuous improvement that defines THEM Earthmoving. Despite the geographical distance, Kynan remains an integral part of the team, seamlessly balancing his academic endeavors with his responsibilities within the business.
